Hello everyone, I recently acquired a used 3090 after winning an Ebay special. It was plugged in a few days ago and performed stress tests and benchmarks without issues. About an hour ago, while I was using my machine, everything stopped working. I ran some troubleshooting and found that even when the system is connected, the PSU still powers on, but when I connect PCIE cables it clicks twice before turning off. After reinserting my 3070 with both PCIE cables, it worked again. I’m trying to figure out what to do next to diagnose this problem further. Gigabyte Aorus B550 + 5800x using a Corsair 850W TX that’s several years old. Inno3D 3090 Chill X4 8X4 GB 3200 RAM in a Phanteks P400A. The 3090 has a strange PCI cover that doesn’t align perfectly, so I suspect a short circuit, but it’s still puzzling why it worked briefly before failing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The power source didn’t handle the sudden voltage changes from the 3090. Increase its output to above 1000 watts.

Testing under stress isn't reliable—it depends on the workload, so it often performs well most of the time. But when you hit a specific load, things can fail. I ran hours of AI upscaling on my 3080 with a Coolermaster 650W and everything worked smoothly. Then one job caused the issue. Switching to a Corsair RMx (same wattage) resolved it completely.
A friend purchased a single card when it was the only option available, along with a 1000-watt PCU, pump radiator fans, connectors, tube cooling liquid, etc. I had to assemble everything in just two hours. If you have any images of what doesn’t fit, it would help us assess the situation better. As mentioned before, it requires more power. The PSU tends to degrade over time and eventually fails to provide sufficient power.
Thanks again for your reply. A tech shop contacted me and collected the card so I can check their response. I’m hoping they have a strong enough PSU since I’m in Ireland. The part below added a bit of hassle when setting it up in my P400A. Updated on January 9, 2024 by Alpaca man
Why this matters? It could be because the size exceeds typical fit, or there might be interference with the setup. Make sure it matches the expected alignment.
Sure, the openings on the left don't match up exactly with the case. Still, it's at a repair shop, so I'll check what they say.
