Just came across an article on PC Gamer about EA’s GitHub collection of original Command & Conquer source files. I’m excited to watch the community explore what they can build with it. I’d love to see a modern take on these titles by fans, capturing all the elements we cherished—even though we now have remastered versions. It’s surprising how much fun people still get from the originals, especially since we didn’t have tools like Unreal Engine or Unity back then (except some basic IDEs) and most code was hand-coded. PC Gamer’s Command & Conquer remains my childhood favorite franchise. At seven, setting up LAN parties with friends and their parents for competitive matches in their basement was unforgettable. It makes me think about using my old Pentium MMX 233 and Windows 95 boot disk again. I’d love to hear about your Command & Conquer experiences or ideas on how the source code could inspire new projects. Edited February 28, 2025 by Bravo3572

It's a title from 1995, and by now the programming is completely obsolete. If you're aiming for a "modern update," it's unlikely you should begin here—consider starting fresh with a current engine.

I understand your perspective and can see why you’d agree. It’s definitely a win to keep this content alive, even if nothing else. Having a successor with the same authentic feel would be ideal. The newer RTS titles are enjoyable but have become too stylized for me. Maybe I’m just adjusting to my gaming preferences now. Lol
