Hello, your in-laws are planning to assemble a new PC and have shared the parts they’ve chosen. I’d like to hear your thoughts—are there more affordable alternatives available, or is this setup quite solid? They’re targeting a budget around 1700 AUD, which translates roughly to about $1100 USD. Here are the links to the components they mentioned:

- AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core AM4 3.6GHz CPU
- MSI B450M Pro VDH Max mATX AM4 Motherboard
- G.Skill 8GB (1x8GB) F4-3200C16S-8GIS Aegis 3200MHz DDR4 RAM
- Silicon Power 512GB NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 TLC SSD
- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5in SATA3 256MB Cache Hard Drive
- MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Ventus XS 6G OC Graphics Card
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo CPU Cooler Red Cover
- Cooler Master MWE Gold 750W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply
- Cooler Master MasterBox K501L Mid Tower ATX Case

Your input would be really appreciated.

the only thing visible is the connection between the motherboard and the processor; it’s time to update the BIOS before the CPU starts working correctly. otherwise it should function well.

MAX motherboards are available in the 3rd generation Ryzen version right out of the box, which eases my concerns. However, I’d be concerned about the quality of the VRMs and the B450 line is no longer viable due to recent AMD updates. I’d probably wait for the B550 or go straight for a X570 board.

@Vishera the X570 price is doubling the cost of that mobo, moving it outside the budget range. Are there other options you'd consider? Shouldn't we also look at the 450 even though it will become outdated? They intend to use the system for casual play but won’t be heavily overclocking.

I understand you've tried constructing the same setup, but I noticed some unusual elements as well, so just a quick note.

The 450 model generally shows some unusual behavior, but it seems to be more related to the motherboard rather than just the CPU.

The motherboard is quite inexpensive – I wouldn’t expect much performance from it. For a solid B450 build, the B450 Tomahawk Max performs well and supports a 3950X if you plan to upgrade later.
