Hey everyone, I’m using a 10-year-old system with an i5 2500, a Gygabite Z68 APD3 board, and 8GB DDR3 RAM. I plan to run Linux and handle gaming, streaming, coding, and CAD work. For the new setup I’m considering a Ryzen 5 3600X. Regarding the motherboard, I was thinking of an X570 MSI Gaming Plus (some say it’s too much), do you think that’s a good choice? And what alternatives are you using? For memory, I was planning 16GB DDR4 at 3200Mhz with 16MB cache in dual channels. What do you all think? Thanks!

These X570 MSI boards are outdated. Choose alternatives from Gigabyte or ASRock.

The MSI X570 boards aren't the top choice, especially the budget models. Considering USD prices here, this is likely the best option available. However, there are better alternatives as well. When it comes to motherboard VRM quality and cooling capacity, the B550 would be ideal—but honestly, that's not always realistic.

It looks like a significant shift compared to their B450 boards, though BIOS chip size problems weren't the main issue. For price, they seem more competitive. I'd also think about Asus, as mentioned by @TheDailyProcrastinator.

The B450 lacks reliable support for Zen 3 CPUs, marking its end of life. It's true, there are excellent B450 builds, especially from MSI, but without future backing it's tough to suggest.

I totally understand. The entire Zen 3 support issue is really frustrating.

Sure, basically the B550 was released around a year prior to the X570.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback. Based on @TofuHaroto's request, I have roughly $1600 in budget. Would it be suitable to consider an X570 chipset? Is it not too much? And would you prefer Gygabite Aorus or Asus?

Well if your going with a 3700x/3800x/3900x/3950x I see no problem going with a premium x570 board as they have better future compatibility and a more robust feature set and a more robust power delivery just like what everybody said but if your going with a r5 and lower (With a 1600$ Budget I don't think but either way ) waiting for b550 will be worth every minute of waiting imo
