Combining them would work if the ballistix is newer, likely around 16Gb/s revision B. Earlier models use dual-rank 8Gb/s dies, but that shouldn't cause issues since they're from the same manufacturer. I'll try running them again to check if it posts. If it does, the new kit might be outdated and you should replace it. It doesn’t make sense for ballistix to be unstable unless it's a 4400 series, which isn’t designed for XMP with high speeds—you’d need to run at over 5000 with proper sync. I’m starting to think the board itself might be faulty or needs a BIOS update.
Thanks for your help! I'll attempt it again tomorrow morning (I start turning into a pumpkin early 😄). I'll also search for instructions on updating bios. My bios haven't changed in over a year.
