After two days of use, several problems have emerged. Initially, there were recurring connection interruptions, whether using Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Downloads would drop unexpectedly, and accessing certain services would only load a handful of items before encountering issues like missing IP server addresses. For example, only one game could be downloaded via the Xbox app, with just two web browsers open at most. When attempting to open a third browser, the system would inform it about an unavailable IP server. I tried replacing my existing Linksys EA6350 with a new TP Link 4400 Router, but the problem persisted. My current modem is a 2Gbps Surfboard, and this did not resolve the matter. My ISP is Cox Gigabit, while other devices connected smoothly at high speeds.
Another concern is functionality. In the Taskbar search bar, clicking on a term yields no results, with no loading cursor or any response. Navigating to the desktop to close the search window leaves it enlarged until I press ESC. The file explorer and other applications like Power Settings and Volume Panel failed to load when I interacted with them. Even basic Windows applications did not start properly. Task Manager would appear partially loaded, but remained unresponsive until forced closure. To fix this, I restarted Windows Explorer via Task Manager, which worked for about two minutes before the issue returned. Eventually, I shut down the computer entirely.
The next day, I tried to boot up the PC. It displayed a persistent error screen and a stuck loading cursor that never disappeared. A power cycle helped temporarily, but the problem reappeared. After restarting, the system booted normally, and Windows Update completed without issues. The startup process ran smoothly, and the system launched as expected. I also tried NordVPN to address connection problems, but it did not resolve the issue. My antivirus scan showed no malware detected.
I suspect hardware incompatibility or a faulty OS installation rather than my own components. I attempted a system restore using MSI Center with the MBoard to check for driver updates, but the results were inconclusive. The hardware appears to be functioning within normal parameters, though performance remains inconsistent.
Monitoring tools like NZXT Cam and Task Manager indicated CPU and RAM usage rarely exceeded 15-20%. However, during intensive gaming sessions (e.g., 3440x1440 Max Ultra Graphics on triple A titles), the GPU would utilize 90-100% of its capacity, while the CPU stayed at 50-60% and the GPU at 70-75%. Some issues are intermittent and only resolve after a full system restart.
Despite extensive troubleshooting, I remain uncertain whether I overlooked a critical step or if the hardware itself is the root cause. I doubt the last point because years ago, my setup included an iBuyPower with an AMD APU and 8GB RAM—no GPU was present, and it never struggled similarly. Additionally, on my older system (8 years prior), I had 10Mbps internet speed with that router, allowing me to open multiple tabs simultaneously without problems. Given these comparisons, my current modem, router, and ISP connection seem capable of handling the load.
use dism commands to check windows
look for errors in the event manager
update the motherboard bios directly inside bios (avoid msi center)
install drivers yourself as well, focusing on network and chipset drivers, plus the intel management engine driver
verify if the network connection is private, not public
if none of these work, send the pc back for repair
My network is configured as a Public Network. DISM (CheckHealth and RestoreHealth) was executed, showing that the restore operation finished successfully with no component store corruption detected. In the Event Viewer, many errors were identified in System and Applications. I'm wondering if I should focus on specific error types to troubleshoot further. I plan to update the BIOS and drivers manually.
Additionally, the BIOS build number and date were located on the MSI website with the exact MB model. This older version is surpassed by the one currently flashed on my device. The MSI listing displays Version: 7D37vB4 (10-15-2024), while the preloaded BIOS is E7D37IZ1.BQ5 (01-13-2025).
set the network connection to private
which motherboard model is it exactly? The MSI Pro B760 VC doesn´t provide any of the BIOS versions you are referring to. There is a version named 7D98vBE
are you using the
PRO B760M-VC WIFI BULK
?
It is the Pro B760M-VC WiFi Bulk. I installed the latest version available for MSI 7D37vB4, updated Windows, RealTech Ethernet controller, Intel Mng Engine and chipset drivers. Changed network settings to private. Results are uncertain but will be seen soon.
Adjust the network to private won't fix the issue at all. In fact, it might make things worse. The private mode is intended for internal business networks. It seems there may be a problem with Windows. I would consider returning the PC—especially if you attempt a fresh Windows installation, as that could serve as an excuse not to return it if issues persist.
