new pc starts up through BIOS but shuts down quickly and the graphics card fails to function
Hi, I'm helping my friend to build his pc but the pc boots up for a few second then turns off by itself. I was able to boot into bios but then it turns off after a few second. Also tried installing windows 11, it was able to make it to the first part of installation to 100% then the pc shurts off by itself. I was able to do this a few time but everytime it just crashes mid installation. I've taken everything apart and put them all back together, made sure the power supply cables are all the way in. made sure everything is plugged in, power socket on, monitor is on hdmi, cpu, ram, gpu, ssd installed properly. And now the graphics card fan won't spin and there is not output. The cpu and case fans still spins, thats the only positive for now. I don’t understand the exact reason, but I know the fans aren’t turning because there are stop mechanisms for various parts that halt operation when nothing is running.
It resides in a small living space with limited outlets, yet it connects via a power extension. I plan to test plugging it into various wall sockets next.
It would have been wise to note that dirty power is unlikely. Unless paired with an AC, a big fridge, or he resides in an area prone to brownouts, it’s probably just a faulty PSU. This particular unit is classified as Tiered B, making its failure not surprising but rather unfortunate.
It seems related to the RAM setup. After swapping out one of the 8GB sticks, the system booted up successfully with Windows installed. When the other stick was reinstalled, the PC started working properly. However, it would shut down unexpectedly after about half an hour of use. It only functions correctly when a single RAM stick is present, and both operate in single-channel mode. The BIOS was updated to the latest version, but dual-channel remains unavailable.
We lack an am4 CPU for testing, so the approach is to use the 8 GB x 2 configuration and switch to the 16 GB x 1 version. It may not be ideal, but that's the only option we have.
