New PC shows no output
Hey there, fellow builders,
My new PC just won’t start, and I’m completely confused about whether it can even connect to the BIOS. I have no clue what steps to take. The only clue I have is the EZ Debug LEDs on my MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR5 board. When I power it on, the CPU LED turns red for three seconds, then the VGA LED flashes white for two seconds, and the "BOOT" light stays green until I shut it down. Resetting the CMOS didn’t help at all.
Sorry, I forgot to mention you, JohnBonhamsGhost. Here are the details, but don’t worry about the low-end GPU—I’m out of money 😛
Specs:
- Intel i5 12400F, 4.4GHz
- 32GB (16x2) DDR5 RAM at 5600MHz CL40
- Gigabyte GT 730, 2GB
- 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD (MSI Spatium M450 PCIe4)
- 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD (Crucial P3 PCIe3)
- Cooler: MSI MAG A650BN 650W PSU
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR5
Are you certain the monitor is connected to the GPU or the motherboard output? Have you explored both options?
I connected it to the GPU and updated the post with the rig details. I have an F-series CPU, so I'm uncertain if it will reach the BIOS.
No, a significant reason I don't suggest F skew is.
Take it out of the case and use the simplest hardware possible to get it working.
Use just one stick of RAM, test each slot.
Double-check all power connectors and ensure no cables are loose.
Make sure the CPU is securely placed in the socket without any paste.
Thank you for your message. I’ve already tried everything twice, but the issue continues. I’m wondering if using just one of the two CPU power slots might be the reason. I assumed the second slot was only for overclocking.
The majority of boards will at least attempt to start, though some have mentioned this in the manual. Are there any signs suggesting both connectors must be connected? I wouldn't anticipate an issue with an xx400 skew. Do you know if there are any small shops or good PC stores nearby where you could find an adapter? My suggestion would be to test it on the adapter first, then safely power it back up using a proper PSU with all the correct cables.
The guide doesn't provide much information about the CPU power connectors.
It mentions "Dual CPU Power: 8+8 pin" but doesn't clarify if both are necessary for the motherboard to work.
Since the manual doesn't specify, I can only note that there is an 8-pin CPU power connector and another 8-pin one.
If your power source lacks both, it might cause a problem, though I can't confirm from the document.
Have you reached out to tech support for clarification?
However, my PSU only has one CPU power cable, so I'll just be able to connect one device at most. Thanks, punkncat!
