New PC setup isn't recognizing the internet connection.
I've made a fresh setup: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-core processor (bought for £399.95), Thermalright Phantom Spirit EVO 69 CFM cooler (£42), MSI B850 GAMING PLUS ATX motherboard (£169.99), G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64 GB DDR5-6000 (£150), Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 7300 2 TB M.2-2280 NVMe SSD (£109.99), PNY OC GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB video card (£679.99), and a CiT DS360 ATX case (free). Total cost was £0. All components installed correctly. Windows 10 Home OEM installed successfully. No network detected during setup—tried Ethernet and Wi-Fi, but nothing worked. Checked settings; it didn’t recognize any cables or antennas. Need advice on next steps?
Check for hidden gadgets in Device Manager. Be aware that newer boards often use several chips under the same model, which can cause driver issues—most likely MSI relies only on Realtek's 5 Gb LAN.
I found the answer by searching for the exact motherboard model. It seems the package doesn’t include Ethernet drivers, so you’ll need to add them yourself. There’s a minor problem though—when I tried to move my Windows settings, typing “Windows Backup” and launching it on the old machine worked, but on the new one it just jumps straight into backup and blocks the transfer.
Always install the network drivers. Windows can't provide newer versions than the original installation. The motherboard might include an UEFI network driver that lets the system boot from a network, but it usually only does that. Moving files between machines is essentially logging into the Microsoft account on both sides, which copies OneDrive data. For additional backups, you'll need a third-party solution.
You're facing an issue where your PC doesn't recognize backup options on the new machine. On your current Windows 10 PC, you have backup settings, but on the new one it just starts a full backup without showing any transfer. Both systems are updated, so the problem might be with the settings or compatibility.
Try adjusting your Windows 10 preferences directly. Focus on changing background themes, personalization settings, and any removed or disabled options rather than using file transfer tools.
