Hello, I'm looking for assistance with a puzzling issue. Recently, with the support of a skilled PC assembler, I assembled a new gaming machine. After some troubleshooting and updating the BIOS, everything appeared normal until I began using the desktop. Suddenly, the performance dropped drastically—like the system was running at only 5 frames per second. Opening files or performing simple tasks took an eternity, and the machine felt as though it was failing. When I opened the Task Manager, the PC showed no stress, yet everything was lagging. Initially, we checked the SSD and RAM, assuming those components were faulty, but after testing, we realized it wasn't the case. We continued searching until we swapped the GPU and it resolved all problems. Now comes the tricky part: using a 4080 graphics card on my newly built PC causes these delays. In contrast, a 3070 works perfectly here. It seems the GPU might be the culprit? I tried it on another machine with a 3070, which functioned flawlessly. So both GPUs are operational in their respective systems. However, when swapped, the 4080 starts to behave erratically again. This has left us confused, and I'm hoping to find someone who can clarify this situation and suggest a solution. Your PC specifications: MSI 4080 Super Gaming X Slim White AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB), 6400MHz, Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ICE, motherboard from CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB.

This doesn't fully align with your issue, yet it could interest you because of the signs mentioned.

What tests you conducted? Did you attempt disabling EXPO/XMP or adjusting the speed to something like 6000Mhz?

No adjustments made. RAM remains at 4000Mhz. Swapped RAM modules, tested with one stick per slot. SSDs inspected individually while Windows was running; lag persisted in every scenario.

It seems like the issue only appears with the 4080, not the 3070. If it worked with the 3070, the same problems should happen with other GPUs too. This makes it hard to figure out what's causing the problem.

SSD brand new, Windows reinstall or move from old to new using just driver updates. Check speed and age of the SSD. Asked about drive condition. Used AMD Adrenalin for CPU/chipset drivers.

Both SSDs were brand new with a fresh operating system installed. As discussed, I tested each one individually to rule out any problems. The issue seems to appear only when the GPU is swapped. We also performed stress tests on the CPU and GPU to confirm everything is functioning properly. To be sure, the new PC operates smoothly with the RTX 3070 installed, and there are no concerns about any components. The lag is limited to the situation where the RTX 4080 Super is connected.

I’d return the GPU if replacing it fixes the problem, especially if it’s slow on your desktop or during games—just the GPU issue, not anything else? Warranty.

It seems it functions flawlessly on another machine. I've installed it on my current PC, which was meant to be swapped out for this newly assembled unit, and everything is working smoothly—games and various tasks run without any problems. Still, I find it hard to understand why it works so well here when the GPU looks perfectly fine.
