New PC Build Issues
New PC Build Issues
Hey Team, I’m seeking some guidance. This is my first time assembling a new PC, and everything seems to be functioning properly until it starts freezing after a short while. It happens with regular apps like Google, emails, YouTube, and MS Office. I’ve played games a few times before, but during gaming it worked fine. Now, when I launch games such as Halo Infinite, Warcraft II, or PUBG, the GPU stays near 100% usage. I’ve tried lowering settings, but it’s still close to maximum. After a few days, the GPU begins making a whining noise. Even though it was new a couple of weeks ago, I was able to replace it with another GPU (same brand and model, Asrock 6800xt). Now it’s making the same noise again. I’m really frustrated. I’m not sure if pushing the GPU to its limits with these settings is the cause, but I’m disappointed. I wanted to try and get through this without spending more money, but the problems keep happening. After changing the GPU, I switched from a tower cooler to an AIO setup, then upgraded the CPU from 5700x to 5800x. That’s when the freezing started again. I looked into other GPUs like the 7800xt, thinking maybe a change or refund would help, but I’m not sure. I saw some options on Newegg, but I’m not confident they’re reliable (brands like Sapphire, XFX, Power Color). What’s the best choice here? Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It should work well, right? You’d prefer avoiding GPU bottlenecks so you can get full value for your investment. Coil whine, as I understand it, usually relates to high FPS and isn’t directly tied to hardware specs—though it might be influenced by your hearing sensitivity or the GPU model you’re using. You might want to set a FPS cap if needed. Coil whine appears on every GPU, mainly depending on your hearing and the GPU’s tendency to produce it. Start with tools like HWUnboxed to verify everything functions properly. Then run 3DMark and begrudgingly userbenchmark to confirm your setup meets expectations. Don’t focus too much on comparisons with other parts; userbenchmarks are often unoptimized but still useful. If everything runs smoothly, test your own hardware live using resources like Intel’s GPU Busy and Radeon charts. This can help you spot issues such as lag or performance drops at certain temperatures.
