New PC boots and shows on the screen but can't access BIOS settings.
I'm working on setting up a new PC for the first time and am trying to access the BIOS. The machine boots and shows up on my screen but doesn't let me enter the BIOS using the keys that appear. I've verified all cables are securely connected. The diagnostic lights on the motherboard (ASUS TUF B650E Plus Wi-Fi) are off except for the boot light, which is solid green. I updated the BIOS to the latest version, but the problem persists. I've been troubleshooting for over an hour without any improvement.
Thank you for your feedback. I'm still figuring things out, and I might have missed something. I'm having trouble installing Windows without setting my SSD as the boot device in the BIOS. I've tried removing the CMOS battery a few times, but my motherboard has a small plastic bracket near the clip that makes it hard to take it out.
The Clear CMOS header provides a way to reset the Real Time Clock (RTC) memory stored in CMOS. This memory holds essential information such as the date, time, system passwords, and setup parameters. To erase the RTC RAM: 1. Power down the device and disconnect the power supply. 2. Connect pin 1-2 to a metal object or jumper cap for roughly 5-10 seconds. 3. Reconnect the power cord and restart the computer. 4. Press <Del> throughout startup and enter BIOS configuration to restore settings. ⚠️ Exercise care—only short-circuit pins when necessary, as doing so can lead to boot failures.
