I’m planning to upgrade my CPU. My 2600x has served me well, but it’s limiting my performance for both gaming and studying. I think a 5800x would be better since there’s no clear data on a 5700x model. I’m considering pairing it with the B550 Gigabyte Aorus Pro and the Samsung 970 EVO 1TB. Any insights on these components? I’m sure they’re solid choices, especially with their PCIe Gen 4 support. A Gen 4 SSD would work fine, but they’re pricier. I’m not sure if the extra cost is worth it for gaming or work performance. Would love your thoughts and any alternative suggestions. Budget-wise, I’d prefer not to spend over 300 euros combined for the SSD and motherboard, but I’m open to spending more if it makes a real difference. Thanks!

Your current motherboard is likely compatible with Zen 3 chips, so you might not need to upgrade. The 970 Evo SSD performs well but isn't the most cost-effective option. For budget-friendly performance, consider the Crucial P1.

my specifications are shown here. it can handle them (b450 gaming pro carbon). but i prefer not to damage it with just one graphics card and no other CPU support. for clear resale reasons, the b550 x570 seems pretty unnecessary. it costs more, includes a mini fan, and has extra lanes i don’t need. regarding the SSD, i’ve checked it out. i’m okay paying 30 more for a quicker drive since it fits my budget, thankfully.

You're right about updating the BIOS for the b550 board. Regarding your questions, the B550 Aorus Pro is a solid choice at around $180, though it's still within a reasonable budget. The Aorus Pro is priced similarly to other options like the SX8200 or A2000, which offer comparable performance at lower costs. The 970 EVO is considered overpriced compared to these alternatives. For storage, you could opt for an SX8200 or A2000 drive instead of the more expensive 970 EVO. The B450 Gaming Pro Carbon should be able to manage an 8-core Ryzen 7 and 8-core Intel Core i7 without issues, especially if you're not pushing Zen 3's limits. Unless Zen 3 becomes extremely power-hungry, sticking with the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon is a safe decision. Just verify what features and support are available for Zen 3 before making any changes.

I understand, but a fast pre-download onto a USB stick works well. Simply replace everything with a new CPU and MOMBO SSD, then install the updated BIOS—should be fine. Right now it’s priced at 162 euros, but with the SSD you’re talking about around 300 euros for the MOMBO alone. I’d stick to a max of 170 euros. The price difference isn’t huge, and I’m okay with spending about 10 more for a better quality SSD. Since I wouldn’t want to risk damaging it with one BIOS and might need to sell it later, I’m hesitant to proceed.

Sure, you'll need to refresh the bios on each board, but if you're planning a new setup, the Aorus Pro is a solid choice. It offers good value for its price and performance. You might also consider the B550 A Pro, Tomahawk, or Strix F if you're open to alternatives. However, the Aorus Pro remains a strong option. If you're eager for Zen 3, wait until it's released before purchasing a board now.

it won't be worth upgrading the BIOS further on my B450 since it already runs the Ryzen 3000 setup. That way, potential buyers can use it too. I don't want to switch to MSI again after what happened before. Strix looks good but it's pricier and there are some complaints in the reviews. I might look into it more. The main point is that it's being announced today, so pre-orders might be available. I'd rather secure one and cancel later if needed.

It's reasonable, though the Aorus Pro is a strong option you can consider.

Thanks though, I won’t be getting the 5800x. That price feels unreasonable. It doesn’t make sense at all. Even the 5600x is only $300, which is a tough thing to accept. Since the 3600 was $200, the 250 was still higher than that.

What do you think? Should I go for the 3800XT? It would save me updating my motherboard BIOS and it’s also about $100 cheaper.
