New Keyboard Problems
New Keyboard Problems
Hi,
I received my first mechanical keyboard from Amazon, the Keychron v6 Max, but I think I might have to return it. Although I enjoyed it, my wife (who has small hands and some dexterity issues) didn’t, and we discovered the reasons.
She’s experiencing two problems:
- Compared to our previous keyboard (an old Dell SK-8135), the V6 model has a much larger bottom bezel that causes discomfort on her wrists.
- The space bar is positioned closer to the edge rather than having a bezel, making it hard for her.
Additionally, she finds the keycaps too small and makes frequent mistakes. Our measurements show that with the rounded corners, the top edges are about 0.2–0.3 mm narrower than those on our current keyboard.
Since we both use the desktop—me for gaming and some work typing, and her mainly for typing—I’d like to explore options for a comfortable keyboard without having to replace our whole office setup (like new chairs or desk isn’t feasible right now).
Could you suggest any alternatives or other keyboards to consider?
Thanks!
Just experiment with various keyboards whenever and wherever it is possible.
Visit stores, talk to family and friends, use public places like libraries.
Short tests differ from extended use, so try keyboards for as long as you can.
Consult her doctor; they may suggest ergonomic solutions or therapies.
For me, a simple wrist rest helped straighten hands, wrists, and arms significantly.
If you prefer the v6 keyboard, keep it.
There are methods to enable two keyboards on one computer.
A modified KVM switch or a USB extension cable with a wireless dongle can work.
Place the dongle where it’s convenient and swap wireless dongles when needed.
A USB hub might also be a solution.
In summary, begin by discussing with her doctor and focusing on ergonomic adjustments.
There could be compromises, and you don’t want one fix to cause another issue.
Beyond the keyboard, other factors must also be considered.
