New installation won't upload - red CPU indicator on motherboard?
I just put together a new PC yesterday, but it’s still having problems starting up. When I press the power button, the motherboard’s yellow DRAM indicator flashes briefly before turning off, and the red CPU light turns on. All lights are lit and the fans are running.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Updated BIOS to the latest version (3202), though it should work with Ryzen 5000 series.
- Swapped in the 8-pin CPU and 24-pin MOBO power connector.
- Replaced the CPU and RAM, ensuring each slot was reseated properly.
- Removed the CMOS battery for 60 seconds.
When I try to boot without any RAM installed, the yellow DRAM light stays on and it doesn’t reach the red CPU light.
How likely is it that I have a defective CPU and need to return it for repair? I’d really like to avoid dealing with a faulty motherboard, as that would be much more troublesome.
The statement mentions current booting problems but does not confirm past successful starts. It asks about the condition of the CMOS battery removal.
It is a brand new PC - never booted successfully. The PC was off, unplugged, and I pushed power a few times to cycle it before removing cmos battery.
Attempt to start without any connected drives and with a single RAM stick installed in the second DIMM slot to check for BIOS access.
Have you confirmed the video card is correctly installed?
It seems there might not be an issue with the CPU. The concern could lie with the liquid CPU cooler configuration prior to the CPU.
At this stage, it would be advisable to take the motherboard out of the case and attempt to boot your system without it.
