New installation fails - driver missing - Error B660
I purchased several upgrades for my PC and completed the assembly. Now I’m stuck with the message “No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers…”. This issue appears regardless of whether I use Windows 10 or Windows 11, and I’ve checked both versions without success. I’ve searched the motherboard website for chipset drivers, including on the ASUS site you linked, but nothing worked. I’m using a USB stick to install Windows and have tested both USB ports on the motherboard and case. I’ve changed BIOS settings to see if that helps, but it hasn’t resolved the problem yet. After many hours of troubleshooting, I’m still stuck and haven’t found a solution. I was excited about this new hardware but worried I’d spend all day fixing it. Anyone have any advice on how to proceed? I noticed this before. The USB installation media was created using Microsoft's official download page for Windows 10.
I possess a second machine that's a MacBook. I utilized dd to transfer data via USB. sudo dd if=Win11_EnglishInternational_x64v1.iso of=/dev/disk4 bs=16m
Proceed by scrolling down and downloading the SATA drivers. Unpack them and place them on the installation USB, then continue.
I attempted this, but the system repeatedly prompts for "select driver to install" and reports it couldn't locate one. It would be helpful to review logs or details to identify the issue. This lack of feedback is quite disappointing.
I noticed some logs indicating the device details: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_467F&SUBSYS_86941043&REV_00&3&11583659&0&70. It looks like it loaded successfully but there are strange entries. The files setupapi.dev.log.txt and setupact.log.txt might contain more information about the installation process.
You may need to insert it using a slipstream into the USB drive for installation. It seems to be an MBR file, likely requiring a GPT or similar format for Windows 11. If the drive was made with an MBR system, UEFI won't work—only the original settings will apply. In Windows 10, you can try setting it to Legacy mode and check if it boots normally in BIOS.
I used a previous SSD, not the M.2 type, and it started up immediately... indicating the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB isn't compatible with this model.
