No, Nvidia is not developing Async Compute through a software hack. They are actively working on it using their own research and engineering efforts.

I own a GTX 770 with the newest drivers, but my NVIDIA temp folder is still empty. It turns out I’m not on the latest version. After updating, it still doesn’t appear.

the most recent driver update details on the nv site don't reference async compute at all... it seems this section isn't connected to any async compute improvements.

Removed the directory and it hasn't reappeared yet. It looks like it should form within Appdata but sometimes shifts to the root instead.
