New CPU installed but system fails to boot.
Hello
I recently purchased a new Ryzen 7 5700X3D to replace my 5GHz processor, but I’m facing a black screen problem.
After installing the CPU, the system behaved strangely.
Initially, everything seemed normal except for a completely black display.
I thought a CMOS reset might help and it worked fine.
However, when booting, the first thing that appeared was the Windows lock screen, followed by no BIOS menu or MB logo—just straight Windows with nothing visible.
After restarting, the situation improved slightly, but the screen remained black. The fans ran at maximum speed, and the CPU debug light flashed.
I tried several solutions:
- Multiple CMOS resets
- Updating the BIOS to the latest version
- Applying the BIOS on the old CPU, which was functional with both OS versions
- Attempting a BIOS update using the original CPU, which worked on both OS versions
I accidentally noticed that the PC’s behavior changed after completely disconnecting the GPU. Once unplugged, the fans started at full speed but then slowed down after a few seconds of operation. Eventually, one fan powered up and allowed the system to attempt to boot again, though it still failed to start properly.
This is puzzling because I have the CPU connected via a fan splitter alongside another working fan, which is functioning correctly.
Could this indicate a short circuit or some kind of interference?
Here are the specifications:
- MSI X570 gaming edge Wi-Fi
- Ryzen 7 5700X3D / Ryzen 5 3600
- 32 GB GDDR6 SDRAM, DDR4 3200 MHz, CL16
- EVGA GXTX 1080 Ti SC2 Hybrid
- Arctic Alpine 3rd Gen 2.0, 360 mm
- EVGA 750W SuperNOVA P6 80+ PLAT
- Additional 4 fans on DeepCool CG580, including two Noctua units connected via a splitter; one is not working when the GPU is fully unplugged
I’m really confused and feeling stuck.
Also, I performed a fresh Windows installation with only the standard setup.
Appreciate your help!
I completed it using the latest update that supports the 5 3600 version.
i just discovered that one of my fan connectors isn't functioning properly
if i connect the fan splitter with two fans in sys fan 1,2 or 4 everything works fine
but using sys 3 causes both to spin and then stop
plugging a single fan into sys 3 seems to work
