New CPU attempting to select a compatible motherboard
New CPU attempting to select a compatible motherboard
Hi everyone, I've been feeling a bit frustrated with my computer's performance lately. I've been researching and looking for the best possible upgrades within a budget of 250 to 300 euros. Here’s what I found so far:
CPU: i3-12100f
PSU: Seasonic G12 GM 750W Gold Certified
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B660M-K D4
Current GPU: RX 580 8GB
I understand my GPU isn’t great for modern games, especially at 1440p, but I’m mainly planning to play in 1080p. If I ever want to go up to 1440p, I hope these upgrades will be enough for an RTX 3060TI or RTX 4060. What do you all think? Are there better options available? Let me know!
I've been feeling a bit stuck with my computer's speed lately. I've looked around and found these recommendations that seem solid:
CPU: i3-12100f
Power Supply: Seasonic G12 GM 750W Gold Certified
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B660M-K D4
Current GPU: RX 580 8GB
If you're thinking about upgrading to a GPU like RTX 4060 or RTX 3060TI later, anyone have suggestions on what might be better? Let me know.
What is available to you and how do you plan to use it?
I don’t have a budget or specific shopping location in mind. Right away, I wouldn’t even think about a 580 anymore. Even if you choose to buy secondhand, there are much better alternatives now.
Meu orçamento está entre 250 e 300€. Procurei preços em várias lojas e sites, e os melhores encontrados foram na Amazon e no Pcdiga:
i3-12100f - 100€ (Amazon)
ASUS PRIME B660M-K D4 - 107€ (Amazon)
Seasonic Gold PSU - 80€ (Pcdiga)
Na última postagem, quando falei sobre GPU, quise dizer que minha GPU atual é RX580, não que eu estava prestes a comprar uma.
Are you currently using an ssd drive? What amount of ram do you have? Is this mainly a gaming setup? If you lack an ssd and have at least 16gb of ram, it would be wise to consider those upgrades first. Save your budget for a better gpu—at least a 3060 or 4060 would be preferable over what you already have. On the amd side, look for the rx 6600 or higher models. You could always upgrade the cpu later if needed.
My RX580 has 8GB of storage, and I also have an SSD. The 16GB RAM isn't a big deal for me.
What components do you currently possess?
How might your present PC be underperforming?
If you're gaming, what genres do you typically play?
Avoid purchasing a F suffix processor just to cut costs.
If you ever encounter GPU problems, integrated graphics can be a great solution.
Are you considering buying a used system?
You currently own an i5-6400, RX 580 8GB, ASUS MB, and a 120GB SSD with Windows installed. You're thinking about upgrading to the i5-12400F, though the i3-12100F is available for €50 cheaper. The goal is to overcome gaming performance issues caused by high CPU usage and lag spikes in modern 1080p games. Adjusting in-game graphics settings hasn't made a significant difference.
If adjusting graphics settings or resolutions doesn't make a difference, it indicates your CPU might be the bottleneck. In particular, gaming relies heavily on the speed of the single master thread. Your 6400 has a single thread passmark rating of 1974. Upgrading to a 12100 improves this to 3550, offering 8 processing threads compared to 4. The 12400 option isn't as strong; it provides 12 threads but only a single thread performance of 3531.
