New Build not Booting
New Build not Booting
Hey, I just tried to help my wife with her new desktop but it won’t turn on. I have power going to the motherboard (thanks to the LED lights), but nothing else works—case fans, CPU fans, and GPU are all off. I suspect the issue might be with the power switch, but I also wanted to look at your suggestions. A friend suggested updating the BIOS, but when I try with the latest one I downloaded, it doesn’t even start flashing. I took out the GPU, reinserted the RAM, and even removed the CPU just to be safe, double-checking that nothing was left behind on the cooler or the CPU.
The machine is an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D with several high-end components listed.
Verify that your front panel connectors match the correct pins.
It can be tricky to stay focused.
Align the pins using the empty area on the connector.
Alternatively, you can begin a motherboard by briefly connecting the PWR pins.
Have you connected an eps cable to the motherboard aux connectors?
Before I read your reply, I took an old computer, verified everything still ran in it, and connected all those case cables to the new motherboard and hit the power button. Nothing, but the motherboard still glows.
Edit: Regarding the eps cables, this PSU came with all the cables labeled for where they go, so I have the monster MB cable plugged in, and the 8 pin labeled CPU + the 4 pin labeled CPU plugged in. There aren't any other power connectors for the motherboard. I verified they're all plugged into the right places.
The new case has a single connector setup with the blank spot making it easy to identify and plug in. The old one had the old style multiple connectors. I used the motherboard manual to make sure those were all placed correctly.
I'm not sure how to short the PWR pins.
Edit Edit: ASUS technical support states it's a hardware issue since I can't even flash the BIOS. They recommend returning the motherboard to the seller or send it in to their repair center. Still trying to avoid either of those if I can make it work...
I got the new motherboard and everything is functioning properly. Your advice was really helpful, particularly the switch. Although I don’t build computers much, I appreciate having tools for troubleshooting, so I’m considering purchasing one.
