New Build - No Video Output - No Troubleshooting Ideas
Hello everyone,
I recently completed a fresh build and encountered some issues when trying to connect a video output to my monitor.
What’s occurring:
When I power on the system, I usually see something *attempting* to show on the screen. It starts up and shuts off intermittently, then loops indefinitely without anything appearing. Once I disconnect the GPU and switch to the built-in graphics, everything works properly.
The most unusual aspect is that I’ve taken breaks several times—taken a rest, returned the next day, tried various fixes, and even performed a clean boot with the GPU enabled. Still, the situation returns to its original state. This has only happened twice in hundreds of boot attempts, both after a period of absence. I’m uncertain if this is linked to the PSU being unplugged or completely resetting the CMOS in a way I hadn’t done before. Or is there another factor at play?
What steps I’ve taken:
- Reset CMOS, including removing the battery, holding the power button, and waiting 5–10 minutes before replacing it.
- Cleaned all dust and debris from the original case.
- Verified and checked every connection on the PSU, CPU, and GPU multiple times.
- Removed the GPU entirely; it boots correctly with the built-in graphics.
- Swapped out the HDMI cable.
- Replaced three GPUs of different power levels.
- Installed a new PSU.
- Removed a metal piece near the HDMI connector (fear it might have touched the plug and caused a short).
- Reseated multiple GPUs several times.
My motherboard LEDs appear to change behavior after each modification. When the GPU is connected and the display loops, I see the green boot LED. I removed all RAM except one and re-seated them, double-checking they’re secure. Since my system boots fine with built-in graphics, it seems the problem might be related to the GPU or the motherboard slot.
I’m not sure what else to try beyond a full motherboard replacement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your assistance. 🙏
