New AMD PC Build Not Performing Well in Top-Tier Games
I recently changed my PC from an older Intel build to a newer AMD setup, as suggested by a friend. Yet, I’m encountering surprising performance problems, especially in demanding games such as 'Tomb Raider', which previously ran flawlessly on my previous system.
Old PC Details:
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-9700 Eight-Core Processor (3.0GHz, 12 MB Cache)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB
- RAM: 16 GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400 MHz (2 x 8 GB)
- Motherboard: ASUS® PRIME Z390-P (ATX, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s)
New PC Details:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX (AM5, AMD B650, ATX), rev. 1.3
- GPU: Sapphire PULSE AMD Radeon RX 7600 8GB
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2 x 16GB, 7200 MHz, DDR5)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 (AM5, 3.80 GHz, 8-Core)
This was my first PC build, so I’m worried about possible mistakes during assembly. Despite following a thorough YouTube guide, I remain uncertain and am hoping for some guidance on what might be going wrong and how to resolve it. Your advice would mean a lot!
Thank you!
These questions pertain to how we assess the performance problems, the level of detail we're examining, and the number of screens involved.

Frame Rate Measurement:
I've turned on the built-in Steam FPS counter for my games, and it appears in the top-bottom corner while playing. For instance, in 'Tomb Raider', the counter remains around 14 FPS, which matches the slow and jittery movement I'm noticing.
Ensure your chipset is installed first and video drivers are current. Visit AMD's official resources for detailed guidance.
