New 5800x3D challenges
I recently upgraded to a 5800x3d and have experienced frequent game crashes. I’ve managed to reach 1 GB of RAM, but all the games eventually crash. The issue started after updating my BIOS and drivers, even though the old 3600x ran smoothly with minor overclocks. Windows updates (Nov 7, 2022) were applied, along with new BIOS and chipset drivers. I changed the BIOS to 4403 then back to 4402 for stability, but the problem persists. I’m planning to try a CMOS reset, CPU reseat, and re-seat RAM after posting more details. Any advice or testing methods would be helpful.
Specs: Ryzen 5 5800x3d, Asus TUF Gaming Plus X570, MSI Gaming X2060 Super 32 GB (2x16 GB), Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3600 Seasonic Focus+ Gold, 850W Samsung 980 Ti, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO 500GB
When I perform an upgrade like this, I usually start with a fresh installation of Windows. It might feel rough at first, but it usually solves most problems. In general, it would be helpful to provide the blue screen code or details about any issues and the games that cause crashes. If you’re running something like COD, frequent crashes on good days are typical for a poorly developed team. If you haven’t experienced any crashes before, investigate further—check the event viewer after the crash to spot any clear patterns or critical errors.
Check the Event Viewer for crashes or errors during the game. Look for any system or application logs that match the time of the crash. This should help identify the cause of the issue.
Usually it helps to know what signs to watch for first. Overwatch 2 might cause a black screen or a complete system crash. If it's related to drivers, things could get tougher—maybe a clean install is needed. Otherwise, it could be a simple Windows setting issue.
It was simply an OW2 black screen crash. The system reported an issue with communication to the graphics device. I don’t recall the exact code snippet.
Whenever it crashes, no error code appears. I spotted it in the Event Viewer, but the application-specific permission settings don’t allow Local Activation for that COM Server app with the given CLSID and APPID to the user MATTHEWS-PC. This security setting can be adjusted via the Component Services admin tool. With event ID 10016 I’ll check for possible fixes, even though it coincides with the crash time but I’m not sure if they’re connected.
replying to you also, the event in event viewer is The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} to the user MATTHEWS-PC\Matthew SID (S-1-5-21-4075213063-1402028430-1863769326-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool. with an event ID of 10016 im going to look up solutions now (edit: this is the event that i see whenever the game crashes but i do not know if it is directly related to the game crashing even though they happen at the same time)
Refers to the chipset driver available on the motherboard's site versus the official AMD version. Hard Disk Sentinel provides insights into your drive condition. Ran an SFC/scannow verification. Inspected CPU connections, re-soldered the CPU, and verified cooler installation pressure. Seen reports from WhoCrashed, BlueSreenView, and Windows reliability tools regarding the issue.
