Hey! Yes, you can definitely set up your own network at home. A central switch connects all rooms via Ethernet ports, and you can use a router to manage traffic. Usually they don’t allow you to use your own router. What’s the point of having one?

Usually the Wi-Fi coverage is solid across campus. Adding more access points isn’t always the best idea for IT.

The experience differs across campuses, so consistency isn't guaranteed. Most universities offer reasonable wireless coverage to individual rooms and/or provide wired options. If the signal is poor, your housing might suggest alternatives or solutions, though it's unlikely to be extremely problematic.
