Hey all! Here’s what happened after a long struggle with my network setup. The main issue was an Ethernet connection that didn’t establish properly or showed as unidentified. After trying several fixes—like a new ISP, updated modem, and even a CMOS reset—I still faced problems. I tested different cables, ports, and settings, but nothing seemed to stick. Eventually, I tried a TP-Link PCIe adapter and a few driver updates. Still, the connection would drop or fail after just a short time. I’m worried because moving or unplugging the cable doesn’t seem to help much. I’m sharing this to see if anyone else has encountered the same trouble or knows what might be causing it. Thanks for your patience!

There might be an IP address clash or the cable isn’t working properly. I purchased a 10-meter Cat6 cable for fast Ethernet, but it doesn’t reach Gigabit speeds.

Hey there! I saw you mentioned trying it on different PCs and it worked great. Just to clarify, the IP conflict you’re talking about seems intriguing—how can I help you verify if you’re experiencing that issue? Thanks!

IP address conflict happens if multiple devices get the same by mistake, and that can't happen if you use static local addresses. You can assign IP manually, use your routers IP (default gateway) and just change the last number... default gateway being 192.168.1.1 and PC 192.168.1.11 for example.

Hey there! I also gave it a shot, but didn’t see any improvement. When it failed to recognize something, it switched to Calbe unplugged mode. I even set up an extra DHCP server on the router, which is how the Ethernet connection ended up working today.

Only when the third number was incorrect or the IP address fell outside the set range did it occur. I used several routers but had only one DHCP server and no issues. Otherwise, with multiple local networks, some devices remain invisible.

And if I overlooked the DNS address, it's possible... You provided a DNS address I can use to verify. Let me know if I receive a DCEP again! Thanks ahead of time!

You're welcome to modify DNS settings. For better reliability, consider using public free services like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1. You can also filter ads by visiting https://public-pihole.com. Keep a backup DNS ready—those fields serve an important purpose.

With this extensive troubleshooting guide already reviewed, you might attempt to start Ubuntu from a USB drive to check for internet access. If unavailable, it suggests the Ethernet controller on your motherboard may be faulty, requiring an AIC NIC or a replacement motherboard.
