So a friend just got service from xfinity since they had the fastest service in the area. They supposedly can get speeds "up to" 1.2 Gbps, but I think with their Gigabit ethernet card they would be limited to around 0.9 - 1 Gbps. When they plug their computer directly into their cable modem, they get just that, @960 Mbps. The moden is Netgear Nighthawk Cable Modem with Voice CM1150V, 2 Phone lines, 4 x 1G Ethernet ports, DOCSIS 3.1. Now if I plug in a second device, their mesh system, TP-Link Deco M4 unit, the internet won't work on the M4. If I plug in the M4 first and then plug in the local computer directly to it, the computer won't get internet. When I asked if Xfinity only supports one internet device plugged into the modem, they say no, if the modem has 4 ethernet ports it should support them all. If I do the second configuration (modem connected via ethernet to M4 mesh unit, then local computer connected to the second M4 ethernet port), the computer maxes out at 230 Mbps, and that also seems to be the max across the mesh network. I could still return the mesh unit or modem if there is something wrong with either. My question is there something obviously wrong here that the modem doesn't seem to like a second ethernet device plugged into it (is this a modem fault as xfinity states or is xfinity limiting the number of ethernet devices allowed?) or is there an issue with the mesh m4 unit that the speeds are 1/4th of what is coming directly out of the modem? I would be very grateful for any help in trying to solve the issue or suggestions of what device needs replacing if so.

This is a cable modem, not a Modem/Router. The 4 Ethernet ports are for Link Aggregation so you can theoretically get faster internet speeds. The problem is I dont think Xfinity supports that. Thats the reason why you can only get one device working, because you need a router in the mix. You will need to connect the Mesh system to the modem and connect any wired and wireless devices to the Mesh system. Also keep in mind that Gigabit Internet requires a bit of power on the router end to be able to preform NAT at those speeds.

Consider reviewing the Deco QoS settings since you must specify your broadband speed.
