I've been struggling with my current setup for years. I have two ASUS routers connected together to expand my Wi-Fi coverage at home. My wired devices are already at full capacity, and I'm looking to add more gear. While I'm open to different networking equipment, I'm aiming for a switch with at least 16 ports and 2-3 wireless access points. I've been considering Ubiquity, but they're quite pricey. I'm also unsure whether managed or unmanaged switches are better, though I think managed could be beneficial. Since I'm not very familiar with networking hardware, any guidance would be really helpful!

I own a Unifi-6-lite AP paired with an "ebay" Broccade 6450-48POE+ switch. The switch cost $50, which was affordable, and the 6-lites are reasonably priced too. If it exceeds your budget, consider a used Unifi Lite—they’re likely selling on eBay now, especially since the 6-lite is more common there.

Are you setting up any firewall solutions? I didn’t realize switches come with built-in firewalls. You also didn’t know you could install Ubiquity devices without replacing the rest of their components. A new mesh network system might fit your budget around 300 to 500 dollars, though it didn’t fully meet your LAN port requirements.

Based on your internet connection, you might choose an EdgeRouter with a Wi-Fi mesh setup—possibly through Google services. There’s some promising updates about it.

I’m not sure if mesh is necessary since my devices don’t move much, but I still want a secure network. I understand the basics and can set things up generally, but my knowledge is pretty limited.

doesn't address the issue of needing additional Ethernet ports. I might have underestimated my skills, but I’m confident in handling everything myself regarding installation.
