Hello. I've been using an outdated wireless router for quite some time. I recently noticed it would significantly reduce my download speeds and would block me from accessing its settings unless I restarted it manually. Since the device lacks a self-restart option, these problems only appear when I force a restart. They usually take around a week to become noticeable. Anyone have any suggestions?

Routers perform many functions and eventually wear out, just like any other device. Their internal components become worn, signaling it’s time to stop relying on them.

What is the build or model of this device? Is it exclusively wireless? Have you tested it using a direct connection to the router? How many devices can be connected at once? It seems you might need a newer router.

@Falcon1986 Edimax BR-6428nS V2 functions as the router. The same issue occurs when using just a LAN cable. Two devices are connected wirelessly at the same time.

Perform a wireless scan with WiFi Analyzer from the Microsoft Store on the affected PC. Capture screenshots of the 'Analyze' page for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Show your SSID clearly. If your device has a 5GHz antenna, also check the 5GHz channel activity. It seems the 2.4GHz network is heavily used, which could be causing the slowdowns.

These options don't appear to work as intended. A router that seems to stabilize after restarting might have limited RAM usage, leading to gradual performance drops. You could attempt to turn off extra logging features, but I doubt it will make a big difference. If the problem is only with the wireless side, nearby signals might be interfering. Since you haven't shared the wireless test data requested earlier, those findings probably won't matter much. Overall, upgrading to a newer router—ideally WiFi 5 or higher—would be the best solution.
