Hello everyone, welcome to the forum. I’m new here and wanted to greet you all first. I’m considering purchasing the UniFi Security Gateway Pro but have some questions that need clarification. If possible, I’d appreciate your expert advice.

Currently, I use an ISP router/modem (Thomson tg789vac v2), and my provider says I can’t remove it. The only option is to place it in bridge mode, which they confirm will work. They also mentioned that the Thomson model in bridge mode and the Unifi Security Gateway Pro handling all rules should function together.

My main concerns are: First, how would this setup connect? Should I connect the Thomson router in bridge mode, and then the Unifi Security Gateway Pro as the main router? Second, regarding Wi-Fi – the Security Gateway Pro doesn’t support it, so I’m thinking about getting the Unifi AC Pro (three units for wide coverage). Would that work if connected to the UniFi Security Gateway Pro? And can I set up the Wi-Fi on the AC Pro itself?

I’d really appreciate any guidance on whether this configuration is feasible and what I should expect. Thanks in advance!

It should function properly this way. A switch is necessary, likely a PoE one. I’ll also consider nanoHDs since they’re newer and more efficient. Also, I plan to use UDM Pro over the USB Pro, which offers faster performance at a similar cost, plus it comes with a built-in controller.

This timing isn't ideal for purchasing a USG or USG-Pro, as they're likely to be phased out soon. If you need it urgently, consider the Dream Machine or Dream Machine Pro. For a wait, Ubiquiti is expected to launch a direct replacement named UXG, which should now be in Early Access despite delays caused by the pandemic.

Thank you for your prompt response. I'll verify whether your switches support POE and nanoHDs directly. Also, clarifying about the AC PRO—what exactly are you referring to? And regarding the UDM Pro, it seems like a cost consideration at the moment.

I wasn't aware of that. Perhaps I can wait a little longer, but do you think the prices will stay the same? Thanks.

yup, instead of the ac pro Whats the price difference, From what I see its 300 for the usg pro, and 400 for the udm pro. Well worth that extra 100.

The UDM Pro provides bandwidth details for each device and overall usage patterns. Visitors typically explore various sections, such as browsing areas and content types.

I believe so. What aspects of browsing interest you? You might gain a solid understanding, though since most sites use HTTPS, you may miss out on some details.

It combines multiple network functions into a single unit. For three UAP-AC-Pros, you'd need to cover a wide geographic region.

It seems there isn't a PoE switch, only a gigabit 8 port switch.
