It's a simple cable modem with minimal features, just forwarding public IP to your router. A full router is required for setting up a DMZ, port forwarding, and other advanced configurations.

The modem simply translates signals coming through the cable. To configure a DMZ, you'd require routers and additional devices.

I've never encountered that before, what's going on? "Used to increase its Ethernet bandwidth" doesn't seem like a typical router or firewall function, right? You'll likely need additional gear to set up a DMZ. Probably two routers, though I'm not sure.

Docsys 3.1 supports high-speed connections, making it suitable for plans like 1.5Gbit or 2Gbit. You'll need a router with dual WAN ports to handle the bandwidth effectively.

It suggests the modem may eventually support quicker connections, though right now speeds stay below 1 Gbps over coaxial cables. The current Docsis 3.1 documentation caps performance at 10 Gbps down and 2 Gbps up. The ongoing development of full-duplex Docsis 3.1 aims for symmetrical 10 Gbps speeds, but these remain theoretical. I question whether cable providers will ever reach such rates. My Synology RT2600 AC performs well, offering strong range and speed for its price. It also monitors my monthly bandwidth usage, helping me avoid unexpected overages from Comcast. Even though I don’t use the feature, it lets me restrict bandwidth for specific devices and ensure essential ones always get access.
