it varies... some TP-Link wireless N routers can work well as access points. this works because their chipsets are very basic and the WLAN connects directly without interference. it’s possible your Netgear might handle this too, though there could be other issues or limitations. in short, using an old N router makes sense only when no better alternative exists, especially if wireless speeds are extremely poor.
