I am just starting out with gaming PCs and want to improve my setup but I’m unsure where to begin. I’ve read many forums about overclocking and settings, but any changes in BIOS often cause crashes. My system struggles to reach a stable MHz and I can’t get the CPU to be overclocked either. I’m not sure if the M.2 drive or other components need tweaking. Here’s what my build looks like:

ASUS TUF gaming B550M-Plus (Wifi 6)
AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Patriot Viper steel series DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 4133MHZ
ASrock Challenger RX 5600 XT
WD Blue SN550 1TB M.2 NVMe PCI-E Read 2400MB/s Write 1950 MB/s SSD
550 Watt Power Supply

Hey there,
For the ram, just enable DOCP and it should recognize the profile for higher speeds. Be aware that crashes might occur if your mobo supports faster speeds, though the IMC on your CPU may not work at those rates—you might need to lower the speeds. Starting with 3600mhz (1800 ddr) is a good initial setting.

For overclocking your CPU, the Ryzen 1st gen is quite simple. Change the CPU multiplier to 3.6 (just as a starting point—this is your maximum boost). Adjust the vcore voltage to 1.3v and attempt to boot. This process takes some time.

Thank you for your prompt reply!
The main problem I noticed was in the BIOS—there are numerous options and the language isn’t consistent with what I saw elsewhere, which makes it confusing.
I plan to try these settings once I get home from work and will keep you updated.
Cheers!

Are you certain it's an R5 1600? The first generation isn't meant to run on a 500 series chipset, likely a 2600 (x).

Wait... how did you get the Ryzen 5 1600 running on B550? Both the B550 chipset details and your motherboard specs indicate that the minimum CPU for your board is a Ryzen 3xxx without an internal GPU. Do you have a Ryzen 5 3600 in stock?
