Hello everyone! I've been running an i7-4770k since its launch—thanks to a day-one discount at my local microcenter. It's been a powerful processor, but after years of pushing it hard, I think it's nearing the end of its life. I'm mostly focused on getting the CPU, a robust power supply, and a 5700XT graphics card. My budget is around $500, and I'm willing to stretch it a bit, but I want to stay within that range. My microcenter has a 3700X for $259, which looks promising, but I'm still unsure. I've been out of the loop lately, so your advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't have any brand loyalty—just what works best for this setup. It's mainly for gaming (1440p, mostly racing games and Minecraft with lots of mods), browsing tabs, and some video streaming or Blu-Ray playback. Excel and Word docs are my usual tasks. Thanks for your help—I'll share what I buy soon, probably this weekend!

If possible, wait for 4th gen Ryzen.

I've been using 4770k OCd at 4.6GHz with a 1080ti, playing at 1440p 165Hz for a while now. Last year I switched to the 3900X. That change really improved gaming performance. I haven't adjusted the CPU core, just the FCLK and RAM. My setup runs at 1866MHz FCLK and 3733MHz DRAM. The third-gen chip should still be viable, maybe hold off a bit longer?

You're concerned about performance issues and memory problems. It sounds like your CPU might be struggling, especially with regular blue screens. The fact that you experienced overheating during installation is a warning sign. Regarding the i5-10600K, it's a strong processor, but its performance depends on your workload and system configuration. Consider testing it in real-world tasks to see how it holds up.

For a dedicated gaming setup, a high-performance CPU is ideal. If you need extra capacity for other activities, a 3600 clock speed offers better value.
