The Ryzen 9 offers more cores and improved cache while staying near the same cost. (Ignore the chart numbers—Google can’t be sure)

most enthusiasts are advising against starting a new build now. The recent releases from Intel and the shifting prices on AMD make it tricky. The 10th gen Intel 10600k and 10900k offer solid performance for gaming, but they’re only slightly better than the 9900k. Availability also matters here. You can still find a 9900k at a fair price, along with a decent 390 series motherboard. The 9900k can be overclocked if you have proper cooling. Right now, it doesn’t seem worth investing in the rare 10th gen chips and boards just yet. I’d wait a few weeks, observe market trends, and check for better availability of 10th gen hardware. If it remains limited, consider going with a 9th gen system and a good 390 board instead. In most cases, the performance gap between 9th and 10th gen chips is under 10%, making the extra effort for the newer models unnecessary at this point.

Currently playing at 1080p, aiming for 1440p once upgrades are complete.

Considering the options, an all-in-one 240mm cooler might suffice, but you might need to upgrade to block coolers for better performance. Honestly, I found the video challenging to follow, especially with technical jargon. Also, using an i7 10700k could be 20% easier to manage than an i9 10900k.

I’d test the configuration at 1440p to check the results. It doesn’t look like much of a change at that resolution with CPUs. If it’s underperforming, consider upgrading; if it’s working well, keep going until you’re satisfied.

I believe everything will work out okay. He pushed the 10900k up to 5.2/1ghz and it handled well at 98°C on a 280 with a 240 and a 10700k. Even if you go higher, you should stay safe—likely around 85°C max.

More cores and cache don't always mean better performance.
