I assembled a machine for my fiancé a few months ago (11900k on an ASRock Z590 PG4 Mobo). I added Optane storage but haven’t managed to get it recognized or update the drivers. I can see it listed in devices, but I’m unsure what to do next. I checked the BIOS and didn’t want to risk damaging it. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Optane can have issues; it's possible your motherboard isn't compatible with Intel Optane memory, which seems likely for you.

Optane also suffered a setback from Intel recently. Improvements seem improbable.

make sure to verify your motherboard supports Optane compatibility or readiness by searching its official page. Try checking other slots if needed. The third M.2 connector might work for pairing a 11900K with a budget board, but it’s not ideal.

Generally I’m in agreement. It might function if the budget board provides sufficient VRM to supply the chip. Many people don’t think so. Budget boards often cut corners elsewhere and could face other problems. As seen with this one, there are hidden requirements from Optane that weren’t obvious.

It might cause issues for the CPU and Optane when using a budget motherboard because of insufficient VRM connections.
