Hello everyone! Here are some NAS options you might consider for your mom. You’re looking for a device that’s simple to manage remotely, supports WireGuard VPN, and can handle larger storage needs. The 1.25TB partition on her current server is already split across accounts, so you’ll want something with robust RAID support—maybe around 8TB in RAID6 would give you redundancy without breaking the bank. The Synology DS923+ could work if you’re open to purchasing HDDs, but it doesn’t come pre-equipped with them. If you need a more affordable path, check out other brands that offer similar features and storage capacities. Let me know what you think!

Synology offers a convenient setup. Simple remote control options and reliable backup solutions. For just 1.25TB, consider upgrading to a dual-bay model, and opt for the more affordable ones with less powerful processors.

I believe a setup around Synology 2-bay DiskStation DS223j (without disks) paired with two 4 TB drives—roughly $120-$140 total—would be the optimal choice.
