I discovered a person on this site who followed my process exactly. I’m looking for guidance and suggestions. I have some background in fixing PCs and laptops, but this one is giving me trouble. I replaced a broken screen as a courtesy to a coworker, but once everything was reassembled the device showed almost no activity. I didn’t run a test boot before trying repairs (though I did see a photo of it powered on with visible damage). During disassembly it emitted a loud beep. I thought it might be because the machine had been put to sleep instead of shut down, so I removed the lid to wake it up. I unplugged the battery right away and didn’t reattach it until after installing the new screen (to confirm everything was fine). This was a beginner mistake—I haven’t fixed a laptop in a while. When trying to turn it on without power, there’s no response. With power, the caps lock light flashes once. I assumed it was because the machine had been asleep, not because of a dead battery. After plugging it in overnight, the charge indicator stayed off. When connecting a charger with a partially full battery, the light turned on but then shut off. When using a full charger, the light stays off. I’ve checked all ribbon connections, swapped the DIMM (no spare available), held the power button for 60 seconds with and without external power, tested CMOS by holding it down, and looked for physical damage—only a cracked plastic piece on the fan was found.
