SPECS: GPU: MSI SUPRIM RTX 4090 CPU: i9 14900KS RAM: 192GB of 6600 MHZ DDR5 RAM MOBO: MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI PSU: 1600 WATT bequiet! ------------ A little bit of a backstory I ordered the parts off of newegg and when they arrived I took them to a trusted friend who owns a hardware related shop (for fixing laptops and TVs to building pcs), I requested him to install windows 10 instead of 11 he told me it wasn't possible I was confused on why but I just accepted it, he also couldn't setup XMP which I was fine with as I know there are issues with Intel CPUs and DDR5 XMP right now, I took it home plugged it in everything seemed fine, I was downloading my games I started with CS2 as its a game I really enjoy, It wouldn't boot, after messing with the game files I finally got it to load, but then I experienced game crashes every 15 minutes without warning or minidumps its just as if the game turned itself off, I just took it on the chin really I couldn't find a fix so I just decided to try and see past it and continue playing but then the crashing turned into blue screens (CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT ETC) I still tried to make the best out of a sh*tty situation but then the crashing and blue screening turned into every 5 minutes and I think you can imagine where it went from there (Crashing every minute to crashing on game start up) so with no will power I gave up on CS2, I booted up Rust everything seems fine I did my settings no issues in the menu I load into a server, everything's good, smooth gameplay, I crashed after 3 minutes off playtime I gave it the benefit of the doubt so I loaded back in tried again same issue. All of the above brings us to yesterday I thought to myself maybe this is just windows 11 being sh*t, so I downgraded to windows 10 installed all my drivers thinking everything is gonna be good, my CS2 wont boot even with the previous fixes, Rust and most other games load up but are very choppy when in focus as if they were capped to 0.5 fps and the mouse moves a pixel per second when the games are in focus and even god damn amongus instant crashes when loaded Graphics Driver: Geforce Game Ready Driver 556.12 GPU average temp: 37 CPU average temp: 36 Guys please help me its been over a week and I can't find a solution neither online or in person Attempt Fix 1 (pulling ram): pulled two sticks it increased stability games no longer insta crash less blue screens Attempt Fix 2 (updating bios to version that supports ram amount and cpu): XMP WORKS !!!!! games freeze upon starting and mouse moves really slow D: --- if we can figure out whats causing the unwanted behaviour with the games I'll pay someone 500 bucks in crypto New Errors: status_access_violation on chrome more blue screens Attempt Fix 3 (changing certain power settings in bios and updating bios to beta bios): XMP WORKS (92 GB at 6600mhz) GAMES WORK (No Crashing) Errors: Chrome tabs and extensions crash Edit (06/05/25): CPU // Motherboard was the issue
I’m also going to propose this idea while also wondering if I’m assuming these are 4×48GB sticks. DDR5 tends to be a bit sluggish with very high-capacity DIMMs, and it can feel a bit loose when all four slots are packed. If you combine the two sets, that’s likely what’s causing the problem. Also, the reason you can’t turn on XMP might be related to how the system handles those configurations.
The 14900KS runs close to full power and a clock watchdog timeout suggests the CPU isn't responding timely. Have you updated the BIOS for your motherboard? Also, as mentioned, using four 48GB DDR5 modules isn't widely tested. Only one compatible memory model exists for this board, and running at those speeds with four DIMMs is unlikely. For better gaming performance, consider removing two of them (leave the second and fourth slots).
It seems your friend isn't very dependable when it comes to installing Windows 10. You might want to take out two RAM sticks, get rid of them if they don’t work, and sell them. Then reset the CMOS, reinstall Windows 10, enable XMP settings, and everything should work fine.
Hey there! It looks like you're diving into some high-performance gear. Yeah, these parts might work together eventually, but keep in mind there will always be some hiccups. Even with a lot of RAM and fast boards, stability can be an issue. If you go for 2x32GB 6000MT, you'll likely feel much better and more consistent.
700 dollars for 200 gigabytes of memory, only to run a game that works fine on 16 gigabytes...
On my earlier setup (the one I used before) I kept many work-related Octobrowser profiles active, which quickly added up to about 30GB of RAM. Driven by urgency, I didn’t check for stability issues and just proceeded to purchase it anyway xD
The 200GB of RAM was intended for work purposes, not for gaming or personal use. I won’t be spending 8k on a PC and will keep it off for leisure games. Everything else seems to be functioning properly.
