Need help with your HP laptop? Let me know what issue you're facing.
My friend brought his laptop here to change his password. I assumed it was the Windows login, but it’s something unfamiliar—a Power On Password. After three wrong attempts it shows an 8-character error. I’ve tried resetting the CMOS, removing the battery, searching online for a master password, and forcing a BIOS update, but nothing worked. I can’t locate the maintenance or reference manual for this model and feel like I’m missing something. He doesn’t want to purchase a new laptop, so I’m unsure what to say. He doesn’t trust HP technicians either. Why does he trust me more? Still here. The only solution seems to be replacing the motherboard entirely, but then he might just need a new laptop. Background: He claims it gave him the power-on password without explanation. I think it might have been an update or possibly malicious software he downloaded, though I can’t confirm until I can access the machine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m struggling and don’t want to let him down. Thanks in advance, rkwalton12
