Need help with a new IP address on Virgin Media and some router tips?
Hi there, could someone please share a little bit of time and knowledge so I can try to understand my new router and IP? I am currently using Hub 3 from Virgin Media UK but soon I will move in as a totally new customer under the same address. They are upgrading me to a brand new account with a bigger speed (from 500mb to 1GB) which means they will give me a completely fresh Hub called Hub 5.
Here are two questions:
1. Will I get a totally brand new IP address? I've been banned in a game I love and it would be nice to know I can start playing again after all these years since I have matured now and I am no longer that annoying snot that once was 😀
2. Is the router and modem actually the same thing, or will their IP/address change also? Or will anything traceable stay the same?

Cheers, I will give them a ring tomorrow. Could I ask do you know if there is a difference between ID's or IPs or wap or macs etc, for example would the IP if it does change have no trace back to me at all? I do have all new pc and mouse etc so no hwid traces in regards to that.
Actually, they can figure out what your video card or CPU is called. It's like Microsoft knows if you have a license for Windows even after you wipe the drive and put up fresh copies of the OS. Any company that lets them find those things are crazy people. Banning someone's internet address is stupid because later on they'll get their old one back. Back in the day, someone got big lists of banned IP addresses from Comcast. You could just leave your modem turned off over night and most often you'd still have a different IP address.
Thanks for sharing that info. I already have new hardware, including a new router coming soon. Hopefully, this will give me a fresh IP address. Since the server uses mods from Steam Workshop and another app to download them, maybe the original owner could use those files to find my network settings or MAC addresses linked to it? Even if my current IP is different, my mobile phones and tablets connected via Wi-Fi to the old router might reconnect to the new one anyway. If they do connect like that, they might be able to access my banned account before I got kicked last year using those same IDs. I don't know, but I could wear a hat made of aluminum foil too haha. The game is just a small server, so nobody will really care about it.
When they ban me, they probably target specific computer addresses (IPs) so I can't even reach the game if my location changes. You'll need to switch internet providers then. Changing your modem or router is sure to get noticed, but changing your internal address won't affect your public one unless I'm wrong.
so when I get kicked out of games, chat rooms, or sites, I can't even sign back in because their system says my connection is fake.
