Need help updating bios
Hi there, welcome! I've been using Linux for years but I'm struggling with my PC setup. It's a CyberPower model I bought used at a good price. The system has an Intel Core i5 10400F and a Gigabyte B460M DS3H AC-Y1 chipset. I wanted to upgrade the BIOS to run Windows 11, so I downloaded the update from Gigabyte onto a USB drive that boots into BIOS. After flashing it, everything seemed fine until I hit enter and got an error about an incorrect BIOS image or ID. I searched high and low but couldn't find a compatible BIOS for my motherboard. I even found an IBUYPOWER one for my board, but the same issue persisted. It looks like CyberPower might restrict updates, possibly to protect their hardware. I'm considering switching to an MSI or another brand just in case, but I want to understand how to fix this myself since I’m on a tight budget and changing jobs is stressful. I’m hoping someone can help me get it working smoothly before Windows 10’s deadline passes. Thanks for your support!
Have you attempted contacting Cyberpower's assistance to inquire about a new BIOS version?
Cyberpower probably recommends going to Gigabyte. They assemble components and sell finished systems. It seems they don’t secure or customize the motherboard. They rely on standard parts. Many boards are labeled with B460M chipsets. You should look up details about your particular board.
I checked and discovered that. They provide BIOS updates, though they’re typically around three years old. That makes it hard to trust their latest versions. Based on what you mentioned, this is the BIOS file for your system from Cyberpower’s website; B460M DS3H AC rev 1.x.zip.
This setup would be logical for a B460 board to display only information from roughly three years prior.
