Need help "undoing" the OC
Need help "undoing" the OC
I recently increased my Intel Core i5 4690k to 4GHz and now I need to revert it. How can I get it back to the original settings? I thought it was set to 3.5GHz with turbo up to 3.9GHz, and now I want the turbo back as well so it runs like it did when I first bought it. Stock speed is 3.5GHz with turbo at 3.9GHz. I’ve heard about the "Default settings" option in BIOS, but I’m not sure it will restore the turbo. Any suggestions on how to bring everything back?
P.S.: Using an Asus Z97-E motherboard.

reset to defaults in the bios. there is an option for this, usually in the same menu that lets you save and reboot. it will reset your turbo boost just fine.
Did it, it says max turbo speed is at 3.9GHZ that's okay
but it also says max cache speed is at 3.9GHZ, isn't cache ratio supposed to be lower?
how do you figure this?
it's in BIOS, it says Cache speed 3900MHz
I just stress tested my cpu via AIDA64, it reaching max 3.7GHZ, isn't it supposed to use Turbo speed? 3.9 I mean?
i mean, who says the cache speed HAS to be lower?
plus that's not how turbo boost works. it will boost to different speeds depending on how many cores are being loaded. if you're using all 4 cores/8 threads then your max turbo will be...
restore to the default settings in the BIOS. there is a choice for this, typically found in the same menu that allows saving and restarting. it will properly reset your turbo boost.

The CPU struggles to consistently hit the maximum turbo speed due to thermal limitations. What cooling solution are you employing?
The CPU struggles to hit the top turbo speed due to thermal limits.
What cooler are you employing?
Just to mention, achieving 3.7Ghz on the AIDA64 stress test seems typical.
I’m using a Cooler Master Seidon 120V V2 liquid cooler; its peak temperature when my CPU was at 4GHz was 63°C.
On the stock model, it never goes above 57°C, and even under full load it stays at 56°C.

oh I see, thank you, I saw it reaching 3.9ghz now, not under stress tho, its all good, loaded default settings in bios and all good.
thank you!
