This seems likely given my setup. I'll attempt a USB boot of Ubuntu and plan an update later.

Please share your macOS version. I checked for any issues with installing Ubuntu on a standard Mac, but the tutorial should still work if the boot drive setup is correct. For more help, you can visit http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/home

I achieved success! Late last night I accessed the machine and decided to give it another try. First, I switched to single user mode to test the keyboard, confirming it was loaded correctly. Then I looked up the Mac model using system_profiler and discovered the hardware details. Next, I checked the system version with sw_vers, which showed that internet recovery wouldn't work. After restarting and pressing ALT, I found the drive selection options. I followed the instructions to download Ubuntu via their guide and used Rufus to create a USB boot. Inserting the USB into the machine displayed the drive without needing a reboot. I installed Ubuntu and everything worked fine, though there were minor performance hiccups likely related to drivers. Thanks for your assistance!
