My computer specs: i3-7100, dual-core, 4 threads, 3.90GHz CPU; GTX 710, 1GB RAM, new RX 6600, 450W power supply; motherboard ASUS Z270-A. I needed an upgrade to run newer games smoothly. The issue is performance drops—often below 60 FPS at any setting, especially at lower resolutions. Even with the GTX 710 in Total War: Medieval II I averaged around 40 FPS with frequent drops. With the RX 6600 it’s 50 FPS but with big fluctuations every couple of seconds. The GPU stays under 40% usage and drops to zero during gameplay. At Legends the frame rate swings from 30 to 120 every two seconds. Is there a problem with the hardware or another factor? Thanks for your time.
Wow, the CPU seems to be quite sluggish for a modern gaming PC. Even with 8 GB of single-channel RAM at its lowest speed, it feels like a bottleneck. You could upgrade to an I3 12100 with another 8 GB of RAM and a H610 board for a noticeable boost. The RX 6600 works well in this setup. Just a quick note: consider a 16 GB RAM kit at 2666 MHz CL14 or another 8 GB at 2133 MHz, which isn’t that impressive. Edited June 26, 2022 by Alireza
