Hey everyone, I'm thinking about an upgrade for my setup—either new parts or components. My system is already solid, but I want to enhance the overall experience. I’m comfortable with building PCs and modifying them myself, yet I’m unsure what direction to take next. I don’t have a strong technical background, so any advice would be really helpful. I’m aiming to stay within a budget of under $1000 USD. My main interests are gaming and occasionally video editing.

The prices of video cards are really high, but I wouldn't make any changes.

I concluded similarly and leaned more toward purchasing a new monitor with a 1440p resolution and a higher refresh rate OLED display.

I love my OLED gaming monitor
, definitely worth the cost IMO.
This is a great monitor for the price
in my opinion. If your monitor preferences include 4k or 21:9 or 32:9 instead let me know.

You might consider refreshing the platform and transitioning to AM5. Models like the 7950X3D or similar options can maintain a high core count while still delivering strong gaming performance. The 9950X3D has recently launched, though it comes at a higher price point. Faster cores in the 7800X3D/9800X3D line could compensate for the loss of the 12-core CPU as well. However, it would be important to evaluate the games you play to determine if they take advantage of X3D technology.

You might consider switching to the AM5 model for an upgrade opportunity, and consider disposing of the existing hardware to offset costs and improve your budget. The 9950x3d is quite costly, and some retailers list prices that seem higher than necessary since it's a new release; however, it remains a powerful CPU overall. I’d be sure to hold off until stock arrives so you can purchase it at its manufacturer’s recommended price.

I sure could and I think upgrading the platform is what you're referring to, especially since it's the motherboard with an AM4 socket.

The platform generally describes the socket, along with the compatible CPUs and RAM. Typically, this encompasses the CPU plus MOBO and sometimes RAM. For your situation, you should also consider getting a new RAM package since DDR5 only supports AM5.
