I recently purchased a 4080 and was thinking about upgrading the CPU as well. I'm considering moving from a 3900X to either a 5800X3D or a 7800X3D. Which option would be better? Also, is the V-cache still worthwhile? The platform upgrade isn't an issue since I already have sufficient RAM and a good motherboard setup (I'm using an AMD kit). I'm planning to go with the ASUS X670 TUF just like my current setup. I've had positive experiences with these boards. My main needs are streaming and gaming, and I'm open to using water or a custom loop if that's important for this decision.

It makes more sense to compare 7800X3D with 4080, but the main point is evaluating the extra expense. The decision hinges on your gaming preferences and desired settings. How much you’re willing to spend matters.

I have plenty of funds right now. Of course not trying to squander it, but upgrading my GPU would be a great idea while I have it. I’m into current titles (cyberpunk, Resident Evil 4 remake), upcoming ones (Starfield, Stalker 2 remake), older games (Assassin’s Creed series chronologically), plus Minecraft. My screen is ultrawide 1440p. Thanks for the link! So similar to Minecraft? I play it occasionally too. Mostly single-player games like those mentioned. My display size is 3440x1440.

5800X3D offers a straightforward upgrade and should suffice for your 1440p ultrawide setup. It resembles a 7700 to 7700X model. For lower resolution or better GPU performance, consider the 7800x3D.
