I currently use a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD5, an i7 2600K processor, 16GB DDR3 RAM, and a GTX 1060 graphics card with 6GB of memory. While playing CoD Modern Warfare I, I experience frequent stuttering and FPS drops. To address this, I’ve set my FPS cap at 60 on a 60Hz monitor, but the issue persists, particularly in Ground War mode. I suspect the problem lies with my CPU. In Task Manager, I notice my GPU usage never exceeds 40%, while CPU usage spikes to 60% or higher, sometimes reaching 80-100%. It could be due to dried thermal paste or another factor.

I’m wondering if upgrading to a CPU from the lower to middle range would help, or if I should wait for a new PC around November. I’m considering the upcoming 3000 series from Nvidia and DDR5 memory, but I’m unsure if those will solve the bottleneck. Alternatively, I could hold off and just wait for the next generation hardware.

If you have any suggestions for CPUs or motherboards that won’t overpower my current setup but won’t cause further issues, I’d appreciate it. Thank you!

Checked the clock speeds during gameplay. Monitored temperatures and their status. Installed MW on an SSD or standard HDD. Determined the cost range for components.

I'm not sure, I didn't increase the clock speed. The temperature is between 55-65 degrees Celsius. I put MW on an HDD because my SSD is only 250GB. It should cost around 3000 euros, but I might make a little extra during the process and I aim for a high-end setup so I won't have to worry about the PC for a few years.

It looks like a potential CPU bottleneck issue. The i7-2600K might be running slower than expected, especially if you have a decent cooler. You could try pushing it further to see if it overheats. Checking temperatures during games or stress tests would help determine the cause.

These 80-100% CPU spikes seem to happen mainly during loading screens, not while playing. I've tried removing the GPU driver using DDU and reinstalling the latest version from Nvidia’s site. You can still build a high-end system with that budget and have some extra parts left over. As for new hardware, we don’t have official details yet—there are rumors about Nvidia’s upcoming Ampere cards at GTC in about a month, but nothing confirmed so far.
