Hi, I'm looking into customizing my CPU voltage settings. On Gigabyte BIOS I see four options for core voltage: auto adaptive, vcore override, vcore fixed, and vcore fixed. I want to understand the differences between fixed and override modes. I heard that override can also be set as a fixed value. After finding the right setting, I'd like to switch to adaptive mode. Do you have any guidance on how to adjust it? Also, are there other BIOS settings related to overclocking that I should consider besides these options? Thanks for your help!

You’re right, there are many resources available. It seems the previous content didn’t meet your needs, especially since each generation and brand varies significantly. Without knowing exactly what component you’re targeting, it’s hard to provide useful guidance.

I didn't come across any info on a 12600K CPU with Z690 platform.

auto uses Intel's VID table with some extra tweaks from the motherboard manufacturer. Fixed mode keeps voltage dropping as expected from idle to load. You must fine-tune the loadline calibration (LLC) to prevent excessive drops—aim for at least a 0.05V fall. Override matches fixed, but if both are listed, it likely depends on your frequency settings above the default offset (should be visible). Add or subtract a specific voltage from what auto applies; for example, +0.1V when auto is active can yield ~1.4V, which drops slightly under heavy loads. Adaptive adjusts only when frequency exceeds stock settings—recommend using it long-term.
