I have a query about motherboards. In my initial plan, I was considering a Ryzen 5 3600 with a B450 Tomahawk Max board (using a 5700XT or 2070 Super GPU). After watching some videos, I came across advice about future-proofing. They suggested opting for a budget x570 board instead. The options I found include Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite, WiFi ASUS X570, TUF Gaming Plus, and others. My question is straightforward: should I consider increasing my budget to buy an X570 board or stick with the B450 board? I understand that the X570 supports PCIe 4, while the Tomahawk Max only has PCIe 3. I’m worried about upgrading my GPU to a B450 board that uses PCIe v4, which might limit performance. Or is it more practical to plan for a motherboard upgrade when replacing my GPU in a few years? Any advice?
out of those this is the best out of those, this is the worst. current gen GPUs don't really saturate pcie 3, so they don't benefit from pcie 4 slots. future gen might, no one knows. an asus tuxf x570 board can easily run a 3900x or 3950x, and is likely to as easily run 4000 series ryzen cpus with 16 cores, so I guess, if you have the budget for it, it's a good investment. having said that, the tomahawk can also run the 3900x and there would be no reason to not work with 4000 series. but yes, it lacks pcie 4. but so do all intel platforms to date.

In this case, the X570 offers little more than better cooling and PCIe 4.0, which isn't much with a 3600 MHz clock speed. The main advantage is still limited. If you're thinking about keeping it for another year or two, a single CPU upgrade and a single GPU upgrade might be enough. However, AM4 releases are likely to stop after the next CPU generation, so unless you're planning ahead, it probably isn't worth it.
