To consider your possible reasons:
1. I don’t know about the game files.
2. I have 2 m.2 gen3 SSDs with about 1600 MB/s read and write speeds, which seems fast.
3. I’m in Switzerland and tried it at midnight, so traffic shouldn’t be a big issue here xd

I also noticed that my connection is quite unreliable. It keeps fluctuating, dropping to as low as 40 MB/s in just one second, then jumping back up to 150 MB/s.

It varies based on your ISP's setup. Some providers offer full 2Gbit capacity even if it serves many customers, while others limit bandwidth to prevent monopolies. Typically, sensible ISPs provide 2Gbit over 10Gbit PON, recognizing they won’t serve many high-speed users. Your current speed of around 157MB/s is decent compared to Gigabit, though gaming and streaming can lag depending on the service. Steam generally delivers the fastest real-world downloads, while most other platforms fall short of Gigabit. Consider Gigabit+ as a way to handle multiple devices with reliable performance rather than chasing peak speeds alone.

This explanation helped clarify things. With a 10Gb plan, would it make sense to purchase a 10Gb network card using Cat6E cable? Right now, I'm limited by my 2.5Gb card, and the ISP suggested that with this plan I could easily get 4-5 Gbps at my location.

Value depends on your preferences. Do you usually save by downloading big titles from Steam? How often does this happen? Would the time saved justify the price of a new console?

On 10Gbit speeds I wouldn't expect anything less than 10Gbit per PON, so their calculations likely reflect the typical usage you'll experience with your connection (the average capacity you can expect). This also suggests that 2.5Gbit isn't limiting performance on Steam, as you should be able to reach around 270MB/s. If possible, try downloading during late hours like 3am. You might also adjust your Steam settings and select a different download server region. Even if the location is farther away, speed can vary depending on your ISP's route and available bandwidth.

I mostly enjoy any fresh AAA title that launches, especially since they usually offer a solid 100+ points. Downloading them on my old 100/100 plan would be tricky, so it might really count.

I checked the test and will share the findings. Regarding changing the download server, let me know what you need.

You're making a leap from 100 to 2500, which is a significant increase.

It's possible your Windows 11 HOME setup might affect download speeds. The SSD you purchased could influence performance, especially if it's connected directly to the system.
